Mr. Eric Jensen
Graduate School of Business
Duke University
Durham, North Carolina 27706
Dear Eric:
\J I have drafted the enclosed note for possible publication in the Sigart
Newsletter and I would like your comments. It seems to me that a note from me
might be more appropiate than a joint report as I can then freely acknowledge
the credit that you and Truscott deserve for your work. I may not be able to
wait for your reply before having to sent the note in to meet the deadline for
the next issue so perhaps you should send a copy of your corrections to Sigart
directly if you feel that serious errors have been made.
An early draft of this write-up was sent to the secretary of the A.C.M. to get
some authoritative comments on the games. I am hoping that they will tell us
where the programs made poor moves and this may be of help in future revisions.
It is too bad that my concern as to computer usage led us to terminate the Duke
game when we did. I still think that it might have lead to a draw.\.

Arthur L. Samuel
